They are chosen by how often you will actually meet them, so the course opens with greetings & introductions, numbers & counting, essential courtesy rather than colours and animals. Earlier days come back at widening intervals, so a word introduced on day 1 returns on days 2, 4 and 8.
Is Portuguese hard for English speakers?
The US Foreign Service Institute classifies Portuguese as Category I, estimating roughly 600–750 hours of study to professional working proficiency — one of the fastest for an English speaker. The first 30 days are the easiest part of that curve, which is why a short structured start is worth more than it sounds.
What should I learn first in Portuguese?
The words you will need in the first five minutes of any conversation, in this order: greetings & introductions, numbers & counting, essential courtesy, about yourself.
